A Generous Gift from the late Dr. Son Kim Nguyen (posted 07 September 2008)

Dr. Son Kim Nguyen passed away on 20 August 2008. He graduated from Saigon University  in 1963 and served in numerous posts in Vietnam as an army surgeon . His last appointment was Head of Health Department of Dak Lak province in 1975. He was sent to education camp under communist regime for few years and later escaped to Australia with his family as refugees.
When he arrived in Australia, he determined to get his degree to be recognised and to practice medicine. He entered School of Medicine of the University of New South Wales under refugee medical graduate scheme. After few years of studying, he was able to practice medicine again and started his own surgery in Cabramatta.

Dr. Son Kim Nguyen was an active member of Vietnamese Community in Sydney.  He is also a member of the Vietnamese Health Professionals Association in NSW.  However, after many years of hardworking, the illnesses had took toll on his health . He passed peacefully at age 74 with all loving from his family and friends.

During his funeral many people has donated money at his request for charity instead of flowers. A total amount of $2040 was donated and handed to Vietnam Vision to help the poor people with blindness from cataracts in Vietnam.

Dr. Nguyen survived by his wife and 3 children and many grandchildren. The Vietnam Vision Inc. would like to thanks for his generosity and to send our sympathy to his wife and family for their support.



Get together in Melbourne (posted 07 September 2008)

Dr. Juliana Chong and her husband – Dr. David Worsnop will organise a dinner for volunteers, their partners, families and supporters in Melbourne on Thursday 2nd October 2008 at One Thai Restaurant.

This is a BYO restaurant located at 6/346 Belmore Road, East Balwyn 3103. The dinner will begin at 7:30 PM. The owner of this restaurant has kindly decided to donate 30% of food bill to Vietnam Vision.
